AUTHOR – The Decoffinated Café – THE 1ST NOVEL IN A KILLER THRILLER SERIES
I now know why few get to publish ‘the book inside’. It is tricky to tell a story well enough to awaken imagination and reward the reader’s persistence. Not being a writer is a hurdle.
The idea for the story came to me 23 years ago. Back then I owned one of the country’s larger independent agency groups and worked with art directors, designers and copywriters. In interacting with the text, the control freak in me would try and improve it, and so my love for writing began.
You can always say it better
Learning how to write while you write is like knitting a balaclava for a World War that is in full swing. You find it unravelling far faster than you can knit. It feels a lot like life. My unravelling story has taken 23 years and covers a lot of real historical turf and wildly entertaining fiction.
It was inspired by a friend of a friend who came to faith in a coma. The idea of having your past erased and waking with someone else’s story in your head is intensely interesting. I had intended for it to be more considered, erudite and admirable. But the devil inside took over the details and with it came the Anglo-Catholic take on the Coen Brothers’ version of ‘Weekend at Bernie’s’ where the dead guy is Jesus. And everyone is armed.
